Margaret River Aquafarm is a newly setup aquaponic farm in a greenhouse in Forest Grove. It uses recirculation of water to combine the growing of fish and vegetables in a balanced system. There is no waste nor periodic dumping of water. Importantly there are absolutely no chemical pesticides, drugs or herbicides used. The vegetables are organically grown using natural pest control methods. The only input to the system is fish food. All fish waste is aerobically and bacterially treated and recycled back into the system.
This is an owner operator sole trader business. It is located on the site of the former Serventy Organic Winery which has a long history of organic farm practices.
I am currently producing several varieties of lettuce plus silver beet, beets, kale, pak choy and sweet peas. As the system expands the variety will increase.
